During the time of the Republic, Rome tried to carry out a democratic system based on the Greek system, where only a small portion of the population were considered citizens and had full civil rights.

Thus, elections were held in the Roman Republic, where even women, slaves, and a large foreign population were isolated from politics. The voices of the wealthy were given more weight, and almost all high-ranking officials came from a few superior families.
