Oxygen is a chemical element (a gas that is part of the air) necessary for respiration and combustion.

Denoted by O2.

At room temperature, oxygen is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas. It is about 1.1 times heavier than air. At a temperature of 183 degrees, oxygen liquefies and turns into a blue liquid, and at -218 degrees it becomes solid. Oxygen is poorly soluble in water.

Oxygen is produced by plants during photosynthesis. Without oxygen, life on our planet would be impossible.
