What is the concept of "Mother Earth"?

It can be broadly understood as the symbolization of nature as a mother figure, who is fertile, generous, caring and provider of necessary resources for life.

In the Christian bible it is possible to find verses where there is a correlation of man's belonging to the earth. As in the excerpt:

  • "...For out of the earth wast thou taken; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."

Therefore, the concept of "Mother Earth" relates to the need for human beings to protect natural resources and ecosystems, as they are essential for life.
