Madhya Pradesh being the leading manganese ore producing State accounted for 27% of the total production in 2016-17. Next in the order of production were Maharashtra and Odisha (25% each). The remaining production was reported from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Telangana

  • Bauxite is the main source of the rare metal gallium. During the processing of bauxite to alumina in the Bayer process, gallium accumulates in the sodium hydroxide liquor. From this it can be extracted by a variety of methods. The most recent is the use of ion-exchange resin.
  • Chromium is the hardest metal known to man.
  • West Bengal

The deposits are found in Bardhman, Darjeeling, Bankura, Jalpaiguri, and Puruliya districts of the state. Raniganj coalfield is the most important coal reserve and mining coalfield of West Bengal.

  • The major copper mines are the Khetri copper belt in Rajasthan, Singhbhum copper belt in Jharkhand and Malanjkhand copper belt in Madhya Pradesh which are mined by HCL; Singhbhum belt is mined by M/s Indian Copper Complex.
